Officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have disrupted a kidnapping ring that was terrorising Abuja.

On October 1, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, the officers tracked and arrested four notorious kidnappers who had been terrorising the Federal Capital and surrounding areas.

The suspects – Yau Sani, also known as Baba (an ex-convict); Nuhu, also known as Giwa; Kabiru Mohammed; and Yusuf Hassan – were apprehended at their hideout in Sauka, Abuja, where they were living among the general population.

According to FCT police spokesperson, Superintendent Josephine Adeh, the suspects confessed to being responsible for a series of kidnappings of unsuspecting residents in the FCT and its environs, resulting in the deaths of seven victims.

“This gang has attacked Dakwa, Dawaki, Aco Estate, Dupe Village, Zuma Rock, Kuchiko village, and some villages in Niger and Kaduna,” she said.

“They also led police officers to another hideout in Gauraka Forest, Suleja, Niger State, where they dug up four AK-47 rifles, 13 AK-47 magazines, and 162 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition.”

“The suspects also confessed their plans to attack some government institutions and estates within the FCT, attacks which have been proactively prevented by the Command,” she added.

“The Command wishes to reiterate its commitment to stamping out crime and criminality within the FCT. It urges members of the public to report any suspicious or unusual activities.”
