The Delta State Police Command said it has recorded another breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime and illicit drug trafficking with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be prohibited drugs across the state.
In a statement yesterday, the command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, described the operations as part of the unit’s sustained efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements and ensure public safety.
According to him, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) deployed on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro-Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna with registration number FST 242 YK at about 4:00 a.m. on June 14, 2026.
He disclosed that while officers were conducting routine checks and questioning the driver, the suspect suddenly abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush. Edafe said that on searching the vehicle, a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including codeine, tramadol, swinol, Man G and Vega were discovered.
According to him, the exhibits have been taken into police custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The statement noted that in a separate operation, CAVS operatives in Ughelli, in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Vigilante Group, arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be connected to a series of robbery attacks within the town and surrounding communities.
The arrests, he said, followed credible intelligence received on June 14 and swiftly acted on, as operatives stormed the Okorodafe area of Ughelli at about 4:30 p.m. and apprehended a 29-year-old suspect simply identified as Moses Francis.
He added that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in several robbery operations, including an incident along Aro Street in Ughelli in April 2026.
According to the report, Francis led police operatives to a hideout within the town where another suspected gang member, Cosmos Erueseke, 26, was arrested at about 5:40 p.m. the same day.
According to the command, both suspects are in custody as investigations continue. The command also disclosed that efforts have been intensified to track down other members of the robbery syndicate and recover firearms and other items allegedly used in their criminal activities.
The latest operations underscore the command’s intensified crackdown on criminal networks, drug trafficking and other unlawful activities across Delta State, as security agencies continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community collaboration to enhance public safety.
