The Katsina State Police Command says it has commemced crackdown on unregistered vehicles and concealed number plates across the state.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the enforcement is in compliance with the directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Aliyu said the measure is aimed at strengthening internal security and improving crime detection.

He warned that any vehicle found in violation would be impounded, investigated, and offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.

He, therefore, called on motorists to regularize registration and ensure plates are clearly visible and compliant with extant laws.

“The Katsina State Police Command wishes to notify the general public of immediate enforcement against vehicles operating with unregistered, covered, concealed, defaced, mutilated, fake, forged, duplicated, or improperly affixed number plates.

“This enforcement is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening internal security and improving crime detection.

“The Command notes the rising use of hidden, missing, or unauthorized registration plates by criminal elements to evade identification and frustrate policing efforts. Such practices pose direct threats to public safety, as they hinder proactive policing and frustrate crime detection efforts.

“The enforcement will target vehicles with no registration or fake/duplicate plates; plates that are covered, concealed, obscured, defaced, mutilated, dented, or altered to impair visibility; and the use of manufacturer logos, artistic inscriptions, or unauthorized formats in place of official registration numbers.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to commence strict enforcement across the state.

“Any vehicle found in violation will be impounded, investigated, and offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws. Motorists are advised to regularize registration and ensure plates are clearly visible and compliant with extant laws.

“The CP also charged all officers deployed for this operation to maintain the highest level of professionalism and civility. He warned that acts of extortion, intimidation, or harassment will attract severe disciplinary action.

“Members of the public are advised to report officer(s)’ misconduct through the Command’s emergency lines or the Police Public Relations Office.

“The Command urges motorists to comply and residents to report suspicious vehicles operating under questionable circumstances to the nearest Police Station. The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property through proactive policing.”
