Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have reportedly killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim unharmed.
The command also recovered a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, N2.2 million in cash, and other exhibits linked to the criminal enterprise, according to the spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, Babaseyi said the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in the state, adding that upon being alerted, the command immediately activated its anti-kidnap unit, deployed intelligence and tactical resources to secure the victim’s release and apprehend the perpetrators.
According to Babaseyi, “the operatives, following a credible intelligence, successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state. The victim was eventually released on June 18, 2026.”
He stated that on sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape, but the operatives neutralised two of the suspected kidnappers during a gun duel, while other members fled the scene with gunshot injuries.
“A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects resulted in the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while further examination of the scene yielded one expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of N2.2 million reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities,” said.
Meanwhile, the command said it has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members, while investigations continue. For his part, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, has commended the anti-kidnap unit, saying the operational success reinforces the command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they may seek refuge.
