Police launch investigation as armed men kill two in Abeokuta
The Police Command in Ogun has confirmed the death of two people and the injury of two others following an attack by armed men in Abeokuta yesterday .
The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed the incident, saying it occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings, GRA, Abeokuta.
Odutola explained that three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux confronted the occupants of a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA number plate, demanding the vehicle’s key. “The assailants opened fire, hitting one Ola (surname unknown), one Shobanke Oluwatimileyin, and two others,” she said.
Responding to distress calls, the Divisional Police Officer from Ibara arrived, securing the area and transporting the victims to the hospital. The attending doctor confirmed two fatalities upon their arrival, while the remaining two individuals are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
The Command further noted that preliminary investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths and to explore potential links to cult activities.
“The public will be informed about the progress of the investigation in the coming days as efforts to apprehend the suspects continue,” Odutola added.
