The Police in Delta State have arrested over 80 suspected criminals for various crimes, recovered 31 firearms, 86 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, as well as dozens of stolen vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones within the month of August 2025.
Announcing the command’s achievements on the ongoing war against crimes in the state, at a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured “all Deltans to sleep with their two eyes closed,” as the ongoing intelligence-led operations would further clamp down on criminal networks across the state.
“Deltans can attest to the fact that in recent times, the state has become very hot for criminals. The command under my watch will not relent in this mandate and will continue to go after criminally minded individuals to ensure they are arrested and brought to justice,” Olufemi stated.
He said there were multiple armed robbery operations across Asaba, Ughelli, Ogwashi-Uku, and other communities, which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of weapons, including pump-action rifles, Beretta pistols, and double-barreled guns.
Stolen items such as motorcycles, vehicles, laptops, phones, and household electronics were also recovered, while a 27-year-old ex-convict, released just five days earlier from the Ogwashi-Uku correctional facility, was rearrested alongside an accomplice for stealing a motorcycle in Asaba.
The Police boss also hinted that a 35-year-old from Edo State was arrested while attempting to sell the vehicles for ₦2 million each, and in Ughelli, operatives apprehended a 52-year-old woman, described as a major drug dealer, along with her apprentices.
He stated that “on August 29, 2025, men of the Area Command, Ughelli, embarked on a raid of suspected criminal hideouts in the campaign against the use of illicit drugs and its subsequent effects on youths in our society.”
According to him, “the raid was made possible through credible intelligence in relation to the activities of some persons known for drug peddling within Afisere/Ughelli town.
“The operatives trailed and arrested a drug baron named Egbule Isioma ‘f’ age 52 yrs, who operates a chemist store opposite the Afisere town hall, alongside three (3) of her apprentices, namely Mercy John ‘f, Favour John ‘f, and Amarachi Ngozi ‘f. The suspect led the operatives to her house at No. 31 Edile Street, Afisere, and a search warrant was executed during which the following exhibits were recovered: 355 bottles of CSC codeine, 57 rolls of 50mg tramadol capsules, 335 rolls of 100mg tramadol capsules, 33 rolls of 200mg super royal, seven backwoods, five hundred and forty sachets of Swinol capsules, and 16 cups of Canadian liquid cannabis.”
He revealed that the suspect is a major dealer in illicit drugs in Ughelli and environs, even as a massive cache of controlled substances, including 355 bottles of codeine, hundreds of rolls of tramadol, and Canadian liquid cannabis, were seized.
Police also smashed a syndicate that specialized in hypnotizing victims, defrauding them of valuables, and looting bank accounts, while two Toyota Camry cars, 16 suspected stolen iPhones, and evidence of fraud amounting to over ₦23.5 million were recovered.
