The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Ogun State Command, in partnership with Global Citizens NG, has sensitised about 180 senior secondary school students from six schools to the dangers of cultism, substance abuse and other social vices.
The programme, held at Star Diamond School Hall in Ifo, Ogun State, brought together students, parents, school administrators and professionals under the theme: “Personal Leadership and its Role in Building a Safe and Secure Society.”
Coordinator of POCACOV in Ogun State, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the initiative was designed to discourage cultism, substance abuse and deceptive gang recruitment through early intervention.
He urged students to take responsibility for their decisions, warning that poor self-leadership makes young people vulnerable to negative influences.
The keynote speaker, Dr Julius Osimen, spoke on leadership, while Mrs Florence Freddy discussed mental health and Mr Taiwo Oyedele delivered a presentation on character development.
Following an interactive session, parents and teachers were encouraged to establish early monitoring systems to identify and support vulnerable students.
The summit ended with the students taking a pledge to reject cultism, drug abuse and other forms of criminality, while promoting peace and positive values in their schools and communities.
