Police, security agencies escalate efforts to locate kidnapped Bayelsa judge

Three days after the abduction of Bayelsa High Court Judge, E.G. Umukoro, by gunmen in police uniform, his kidnappers have yet to contact his family for ransom or provide reasons for the act.

The incident, which occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at a popular eatery opposite Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa, has heightened tension in the state capital, already troubled by a rampaging cult war.

Governor Douye Diri has directed the state’s Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu Alonyenu, and all security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the judge while dealing decisively with the perpetrators.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Musa Mohamed, the government disclosed that security agencies are collaborating, reviewing video footage, and employing crime mapping techniques to aid the rescue.

The statement reads, “We have well-formatted crime mapping sketches that are aiding ongoing law enforcement efforts in the rescue operation. Guarantees are herewith given that this singular incident should not orchestrate any mistrust between the Bayelsa public and security forces within the state.”

The statement further assured the public of the governor’s support and the commitment of security agencies to ensure the judge’s safe return. “The warm support of the Governor of Bayelsa State and the good people of the state has enhanced our capacity and determination to ensure that the Justice is rescued unhurt,” it added.

Security measures have reportedly been upscaled to bolster law enforcement strategies and resolve the incident. The government also appealed to members of the public to refrain from any actions that might obstruct or hinder the ongoing rescue efforts.
