Police sensitise corps members on drug abuse, crime prevention in Borno

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)

The Borno State Police Command has commenced the sensitisation of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on crime prevention, drug abuse, cultism and responsible use of social media during their orientation at the NYSC camp in Maiduguri.

The command said the two-week sensitisation programme was part of its commitment to strengthening community partnerships and preventive policing by equipping corps members with practical knowledge to make responsible decisions.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said the programme would enable the corps members to recognise security risks and contribute positively to the safety and well-being of their communities.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, the sensitisation team was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Jawi Mohammed, who stressed the importance of community policing in the state.

Daso added that other facilitators included the Admin Officer of the Borno State Rapid Response Squad (RRS)/Social Vices Unit, DSP Kenneth Ukenya; officers from the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV); and members of the Public Relations Unit of the command.

The command reiterated that security was a shared responsibility, stressing that young Nigerians, particularly corps members serving in various communities, had important roles to play in crime prevention, peaceful coexistence and the development of stronger relationships between the police and the public.
