A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has distributed 10,000 food packs and relief materials to support his constituents ahead of the Ramadan fasting.

The distribution exercise was flagged off in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Council of the state, drawing community leaders, party stakeholders and residents from across the constituency.

Dasuki, who represents Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, said the intervention was designed to cushion the economic hardship faced by families and ensure that vulnerable households observe the holy month of Ramadan with dignity and peace of mind.

He disclosed that 3,000 food items were facilitated for the constituency through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

Dasuki explained that an additional 7,000 food items were personally disbursed to the beneficiaries, bringing the total to 10,000 packages of rice, millet and beans, cartons of tomatoes, vegetable oil, palm oil and seasoning cubes.

The items were handed over to ward officials for onward distribution to identified beneficiaries, including widows, elderly persons and low-income families.

Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Attahiru Danmadi, the lawmaker explained that all the 21 wards in Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency would benefit from the distribution.

He emphasised that ward representatives were carefully selected to ensure transparency and equitable distribution to the most vulnerable residents.

Dasuki described Ramadan as a sacred month characterized by fasting, charity and prayers, noting that acts of kindness and generosity are especially significant during the period.

He said the intervention aligned with his commitment to responsive representation and grassroots support.

“Ramadan is a time of reflection, sacrifice and compassion. It is our responsibility as leaders to support our people, especially during challenging times,” he stated.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) representative, Mr. Saradeen, commended the lawmaker for the initiative and enjoined the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by praying for the lawmaker.

Some beneficiaries, who spoke at the event, commended the lawmaker for what they described as a timely and thoughtful intervention.

One of them, Mamman Chakai, said the assistance would go a long way in reducing the burden on families preparing for the fast, particularly amid rising food prices.

Similarly, Kulu Abubakar Jabo, described the gesture as remarkable, noting that many households would now be better positioned to observe Ramadan without undue hardship.

They urged fellow beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by praying for the lawmaker, Sokoto State and Nigeria at large, particularly for unity, peace and sustained development of the constituency.
