A joint operation by the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) has led to the rescue of Engineer Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University who was abducted on July 31.
Saleh was kidnapped along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. His rescue was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.
The military and DSS personnel conducted the operation across multiple locations, including Kente, Sondi, Yaku, and the Warawa general area, following what the army described as “credible and actionable intelligence.”
“Troops encountered the kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and pressure, the criminals fled the scene, abandoning the victim,” the statement read.
Muhammad added that the lecturer was recovered unhurt and was immediately taken to safety by the rescue team.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops involved and encouraged continued public cooperation with security forces.
He said, “We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. Community support is vital to sustaining these gains.”
