To improve inter-state and intra-city transportation in Sokoto State, the state government has provided 30 additional mass transit buses to the Ministry of Transportation.
During the handover of the keys to the Commissioner for Transportation, Deputy Governor of the state, Idris Muhammed Gobir, said that the move aimed to alleviate the difficulties passengers face when using the state’s mass transit vehicles.
He said that the 30 buses were part of the fleet previously purchased by the state government but were not released until the completion of the e-ticketing system, saying that with this system, passengers can now easily book and pay for their transport fares online.
Gobir also emphasised that the e-ticketing system would promote transparency, accountability, and value of money in the daily operations of the state’s mass transit service.
He further urged the Ministry of Transportation to supervise and maintain the buses effectively, stressing the importance of protecting these vehicles, which were bought with taxpayers’ money.
The deputy governor called on both the drivers and passengers to maintain the cleanliness of the buses at all times.
Also, the state Commissioner for Transportation, BalaKokani, expressed gratitude to the Gobir and assured him that the vehicles would be well maintained to safeguard government’s investment.
He also commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his continuous support to the mass transit sector, which has significantly improved the comfort and convenience of passengers.
