Taraba govt launches electronic medical records, database for health workers

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has launched the Electronic Medical Records for Secondary Healthcare Facilities (EMR4SHF) and the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Database as part of efforts to modernise the state’s healthcare system.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Jalingo through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bodiya Gbansheya Buma, the governor said the initiative would transform healthcare delivery by digitising patient records and improving the management of health workers across secondary healthcare institutions.

He said the EMR4SHF would streamline documentation, enhance care coordination, and ensure accuracy of patient records, while the HRH database would centralise information on workforce deployment, performance tracking, and training needs, enabling better resource planning and management.

Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a people-centred healthcare system and called on stakeholders to support the successful rollout of the project.

The commissioner commended the governor for the initiative, saying it would improve planning and decision-making in the sector.

Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Health Services Management Board (HSMB), Dr. Garba Danjuma, said the board was mandated to oversee and regulate all secondary health facilities in the state and had developed an Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) with two key components — EMR4SHF and the HRH Database.

He explained that the system is built on a robust software platform, features a live dashboard and a central database hosted at the HSMB headquarters in Jalingo, and will be accessible to authorised stakeholders for planning, monitoring, and decision-making.

Dr. Danjuma said the EDMS would provide real-time data on staff profiles, postings, training, and performance, integrate workforce and service delivery indicators for performance tracking, improve accuracy and timeliness of health reporting, enable remote access to facility performance data, and strengthen institutional capacity for evidence-based planning and governance.

“This initiative marks a critical milestone in our journey toward digital transformation and improved governance in the health sector,” he said.
