The Abia State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal beheading of a couple in the state.
Jacob Udo, 78, and his wife, Comfort, 73, were attacked and killed in their home on Tuesday night. The assailants dismembered their bodies and stole several items from their residence.
The police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, provided details of the arrests in a statement on Friday, following earlier reports of the brutal attack by hoodlums.
“Jacob Udo and his wife, Comfort, were in their residence when they were attacked by the assailants,” she said. According to reports, the gunmen dismembered the victims’ bodies after the attack.
The couple hailed from Itumbuzor, a community in the Bende Local Government Area of the state. Chinaka stated that the suspects were arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident. She explained that the police received a report about the attack and killing on Wednesday, prompting a visit to the crime scene.
“Police operatives who visited the scene of the attack discovered that several properties were carted away from the victims’ house,” she noted. The spokesperson added, “The crime scene was visited, and corpses were deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”
The three suspects are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia. However, Chinaka did not disclose their identities or the exact timing of their arrests.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, has expressed deep concern over the incident. According to the statement, he vowed to unravel the mystery behind the killings of Jacob and Comfort Udo.
