Three persons were burnt to death in a lone auto crash yesterday at Iyana Egbado along the Ewekoro inbound Papalanto section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.
Seventeen other persons sustained injuries in the accident involving a Mazda bus with registration number KRD 809 XC.
Spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed in a statement that 20 occupants were involved in the accident, which occurred at about 11:00 a.m.
He explained that the three casualties were burnt beyond recognition.
Akinbiyi attributed the accident to a tyre burst, which caused the bus to somersault into a nearby bush before bursting into flames.
He stated that operatives of TRACE and the Federal Road Safety Corps were on the ground for rescue operations.
According to him, the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital Ifo for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The spokesperson for the FRSC, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed that the occupants of the bus included six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child and two female children.
He said, “Out of the 20 persons involved, five persons were killed, comprising one adult male, two adult females, one male child and one female child. Ten persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five persons escaped unhurt.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the probable causes of the crash were speeding and overloading. The road was paved and the weather condition at the time of the incident was cloudy.
“The injured victims were immediately conveyed to General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital for prompt medical attention, while the remains of the deceased victims were deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ifo.”
