Two senior terrorist commanders have surrendered to troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Geidam, Yobe State, and are currently in military custody undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
The military identified the surrendered commanders as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure. They reportedly arrived in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on June 5, 2026.
In a statement, the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said preliminary interrogation indicated that the two commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist group and possess extensive knowledge of its operational activities, command structure and logistics network.
According to him, initial intelligence gathered from the debriefing has already provided valuable insights into the group’s operational methods, sustainment mechanisms and support networks.
“The information is expected to significantly enhance ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East theatre,” Goni said.
He described the surrender as another major setback for the terrorist group, saying it underscored the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations by Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with other security partners.
“The relentless military pressure, supported by coordinated land and air operations as well as enhanced intelligence efforts, continues to deny the terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their combat capability and erode their command-and-control structures.
“Increasingly, terrorist leaders and fighters are finding continued resistance untenable, compelling them to abandon the insurgency and surrender to troops,” he said.
Goni added that the latest surrender further reflected the growing disintegration of the terrorist organisation and the cumulative impact of sustained military operations across the North-East.
He reaffirmed that Operation HADIN KAI would sustain its operational momentum until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or compelled to surrender.
“Troops will continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify offensive operations and work in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to eliminate the terrorist threat and restore enduring peace, security and stability across the North-East,” he added.
