THE sleepy Ametiti autonomous community, Oji River council of Enugu State has been thrown into joyous celebration following the successful enthronement of Sir Edmund Onyefulu, as its traditional ruler.

The crowning marks an end to the over two years of search for a Monarch for the community after the death of Igwe Humphery Ibekaku Nganwoke in 2012.

Speaking during the coronation that attracted elders, young and old at the community’s ancient square, President General of Ametiti, Mr. Emezie Ikeanyionwu, an architect, said it was a thing of joy that the community passed through the process of electing and crowning a monarch without problems.

He attributed it to the resilience of the residents, who he said had always wanted peace, knowing that it was the only tool for progress.

Emezie enjoined the new monarch to always seek God and wise counsel in the discharge of his duties and allow general interest override his personal interest to enable him succeed.

He urged members of the community to support the new monarch to enable him transform the community, as well as pray for God’s directives in his daily dealings.

Igwe Onyefulu had after receiving his staff of office called for peace, saying it was the only thing required to sustain the progress the community had recorded in the past.

He stated that several communities in Enugu now live in fear over disagreements arising from Igweship tussle, stressing that, he would bring back to the fold all aggrieved persons who contested the position with him.

The monarch called for tolerance and forgiveness among the residents, irrespective of whatever wrong may have been committed while the search for another monarch lasted.

“We have no other community but this; whatever we will do to protect it should be done. On my part, I promise not to let you down but do all in my power to give each of us a sense of belonging”, Igwe Onyefulu said.

All the elderly men in the community at the event prayed that God would sustain the new monarch to remove from the community anything that could cause grief.
