The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has announced the arrest of 22 suspects in connection with the brutal murder of 12 Kaduna indigenes who were attending a wedding in neighbouring Plateau State last Saturday.
The governor made this known via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the killings, which also left several others injured as a heinous and inhumane act. He shared this while visiting the surviving victims at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna on Monday.
According to reports, the victims were travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to attend a wedding ceremony in Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State when they were intercepted and attacked by a mob in the Mangun District of Mangu LGA.
“During my interaction with the victims, they personally narrated their ordeal. It was horrifying — what they went through,” Governor Sani said. “I am, however, relieved to see that the survivors are recuperating after their harrowing experience in Plateau State.”
The governor called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend all those involved in the attack.
“We will not relent until all those responsible face the full weight of the law,” he emphasised.
Governor Sani also commended the people of Kaduna for maintaining peace despite the emotionally charged situation. He urged traditional and community leaders in Plateau State to discourage such acts and promote peaceful coexistence.
He directed the hospital’s medical director to ensure that the victims receive the best possible care and stated that the Kaduna State Government would take full responsibility for their medical treatment.
“In addition to covering their medical bills, we will provide psychosocial counselling to help the victims heal from the trauma before they are reunited with their families and reintegrated into society,” he added.
