14 Die In Accident Involving Gombe Gov’s Convoy
NO fewer than 14 persons were reportedly killed in an accident involving a convoy of Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and three Hummer buses along Bauchi-Gombe road on Thursday.
Bauchi State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, told The Guardian that the accident occurred around 7pm on Thursday. “There was a fatal motor accident involving a convoy of the governor along Bauchi-Gombe Federal Highway in Alkareri Council and as a result, 14 people were burnt beyond identification.”
Mohammed confirmed that the accident involved three Hummer buses and a motorcycle, which were gutted by fire.
“The Police Patrol Team attached to Alkaleri Division visited the scene, cleared obstruction and evacuated the casualties to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gombe for medical attention and postmortem examination and the case under investigation,” he said.
The Police spokesman further explained that the Command would not fold its arms and watch disgruntled elements disrupt public peace in the state.
“Groups or individual desiring and preparing to cause chaos in the state are warned to desist, as any breach of public peace will attract severe legal consequences,” he stressed.
Similarly, Mohammed disclosed that around 1.30pm on Thursday, a group of miscreants went on rampage in some parts of Bauchi town, threatening the public peace.
He said that security forces, including the Police and Army, dispatched to the scene, dispersed the hoodlums and restored normalcy in the affected areas.
“So far, nine suspects have been arrested for criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance and mischief, while patrols are being intensified within and outside the town,” he disclosed.
