Adamawa PDP chiefs dump Ribadu, endorse SDP candidate
THE crisis rocking Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another dimension at the weekend as some party chieftains in Toungo local council on Saturday declared their total support for Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Markus Gundiri, in the general elections.
The PDP chieftains who attended the campaign rally of Gundiri in Toungo on Saturday, stated their decision to remain in the party, but their support for Gundiri was due to the imposition of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and others as candidates on the party members in the state by the PDP national leadership.
The spokesman of the group, Alhaji Abubakar S. Toungo, said that the only democratic way to show their grievances against PDP is to remain in the party but prove to those he described as Abuja politicians that they have no monopoly to impose candidates on the electorate.
“We PDP members in Adamawa have resolves to vote SDP governorship candidate because Ribadu is a product of illegality, so voting him will amount to promoting illegality and murdering the rule of law in the country,” he said.
Toungo, who called on other chieftains of PDP in other councils to vote Gundiri, pointed out that the SDP governorship candidate has proven records of great performance everywhere he works as a civil or public servant.
Gundiri, who spoke at the rally, promised to construct the Mayo-Belwa-Toungo road, which he alleged, “is the worse road in the north-eastern region.”
“I want to assure you that in the first three months in office the Mayo-Belwa Toungo road that takes motor users close to five hours from Mayo-Belwa to Toungo, a distance that should not be more that one hour. If I fail to do it hold your son who is my deputy responsible, take me by my words”, he stated.
