Agbaje promises N18,000 minimum wage
• Decries ‘neglect’ of Badagry, Epe
THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has accused the present government of short-changing Lagos civil servants by paying N12,000 instead of the N18,000 statutory minimum wage.
“Lagos State pays N12,000 instead of N18,000,” Agbaje said. “Be assured we shall pay you the N18,000 minimum wage.”
The PDP candidate spoke at Awolowo Road Wednesday during the party’s campaign.
Agbaje, while addressing party supporters said he would establish a food processing industry in Epe, which would serve as the hub of seafood supplies to Nigeria and West Africa.
Speaking in Badagry on Saturday, Agbaje said the Badagry and Egun people had been sidelined for too long in Lagos State politics and infrastructural development.
According to him, it was in the spirit of redressing the marginalisation of the zone that a daughter of the zone, Alhaja Safurat Abdulkarim got chosen as his running mate.
Lamenting the dearth of industries in Badagry, Abdulkarim said under PDP, the town would be turned into an industrial hub to exploit markets in Togo, Benin and the entire West African sub-region to the benefit of the Nigerian economy.
Also, prominent leaders of the PDP, including Chief Bode George and former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Monday asked people in Lagos to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and Jimi Agbaje in the coming general elections.
They spoke during a campaign rally in Campos area of Lagos Island.
Another chieftain of the party, Chief Sunbo Onitiri has assured the people of Lagos of the dividends of democracy if they elect Agbaje as the next governor.
Onitiri, who is a member of the political group – Eko Initiatives, described Agbaje as the most credible, competent, trusted and reliable of all the candidates.
