AMBODE-OK

THE All progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has assured Lagos workers to protect their interest when he takes over the administration of Lagos State come May 29, even as he promised not to raise taxes.

Ambode made the promise at interactive session organised by the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and civil societies on Thursday in Ikeja.

According to Ambode, “all our workers have been put into the programmes of APC. If Lagos is safer and cleaner, and we have a more robust economy, it means that our workers will be more comfortable.

“What I intend to do is to make Lagos more comfortable for everyone. If we can have a more comfortable and prosperous life for our children and our aged ones, together with all the workers, we will make Lagos work for everyone.”

Speaking on the issue of multiple taxation and increment if he comes into power, he noted that when elected, he would not increase taxes. “It is about making life comfortable for our people. We do not have plans of doing that. Because I am an accountant should not be the basis for me to increase taxes. We  will not make life unbearable for our people.

“We shall have an Employment Trust Fund that will be jointly funded by the government, organised private sector and other stakeholders. Employment Trust Fund will allow our younger ones have access to capital so that they can create jobs for themselves and for others. We shall have a robust economy that thrives. We are committed to N25 billion in the next four years under our administration, so it will allow our people access to cheap capital.”

Commenting on the news making the rounds that he is a psychiatric patient, the APC flag bearer said: “This is the same thing that has been done to Gen. Buhari when some people said he did not have a school certificate. I have worked as an accountant in Lagos state for 27 years; I have been the accountant-general for six and half years only to retire voluntarily without any blemish. All they could allege is that I have psychiatric problem. That is all in the game of politics. They are afraid they are already losing. We are not going into exchange of words with anyone. We are only interested in our people; we shall focus on how to better the lives of our people. I am able and strong man. Don’t I look fit?”
