ZAMFARA State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinka has alleged increasing intimidation of opposition candidates by the state government.

Fielding questions from reporters in Gusau, the state capital, Sani called on the Federal government and other relevant authorities in the country to as a matter of urgency do something immediately before this goes out of hands.

The APGA candidate explained that the current political direction in the state is taking a dangerous dimension where the opposition parties are being intimidated and harassed thereby depriving them of the opportunity to exercise their political rights as enshrined in the constitution.

He accused the ruling APC in the state of an alleged plan to harm opposition parties’ candidates and their supporters through the use of thugs and other machineries it set on motion to ensure they are incapacitated.

According to him, a lot of damage have been made caused by the APC, which had even gone to the extent of establishing a non-governmental organization in form of traffic policemen known as ZAROTA, with no constitutional backing, which it planned to use in attacking the opposition as the forthcoming polls draw near.

Sani recalled how his four campaign offices in Maradun, Mafara, Bungudu and Kaura Namoda Local Governments, as well as 15 of his campaign vehicles were recently destroyed by political thugs believed to have been sponsored by the ruling party APC. “Is this democracy,” he asked.
