APGA gives reasons for Jonathan’s re-election

• Women in Kogi urged to intensify support

• Group vows to mobilise 20m youths 

THE All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, has described the implementation of the recommendations of the recent National Conference that seek a new restructured and all-inclusive polity as the main cardinal reason why Nigerians should trust and re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan in the coming February 14, 2015 presidential poll.

  Umeh, who said this in an interview Sunday with The Guardian in his Agulu-Uzoigbo country-home, Anaocha Local Council, after a meeting of his campaign team with all the national and state assemblies’ candidates and chairmen of the seven local councils within the senatorial zone, gave kudos to Jonathan for taking up the challenge of convoking the conference, which many other leaders before him dared not discuss, therefore, urged Nigerians to massively vote to re-elect Jonathan to enable him implement the recommendations of the National Conference for a new Nigeria.

  Umeh re-affirmed that APGA supports Jonathan, and the resolution to support him was passed and adopted in the special convention of the party of December 17, 2014 in Awka, with clearly stated reasons, one of which was the implementation of the recommendations of the national conference.

  Also, Kogi State Co-ordinator for Women Mobilisation for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign, Mrs. Nnasha Michael, has called on women groups in Kogi State to register their support and names of their organisations at the women directorate in Lokoja.

 A statement signed by the consultant to the co-ordinator, Hariratu Yakubu and made available to The Guardian in Lokoja at the weekend, said that the directorate had mapped out the strategies that would ensure victory for the PDP in the February 14 presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

  It stated that it would achieve it through active mobilisation of women in the state to massively vote for Jonathan and National Assembly candidates in the election.

  “We are optimistic that our party will defeat APC in the February polls and we are working towards that through the mobilisation of women in the state”, the statement said.

  The co-ordinator commended the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan and Hajia Halimat Wada for their motherly role and support to the women wing of PDP, assuring that no stone will be left unturned to ensure victory for the party in the state. 

  In another development, northern youths, under the auspices of Arewa Youth Integrity Forum, has promised to mobilise 20 million youths across the 19 northern states for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.

  The youths, who described Jonathan as a statesman, who is sympathetic to the plight of his followers, also hailed him for the courage and bravery shown in visiting Nigerian troops in Maiduguri, the internally-displaced persons (IDPs) and persons affected by the Boko Haram sect.

  The youths in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by its National President, Hamid Usman, described Jonathan as a statesman who is sympathetic to the plight of his followers, saying the courage shown by him in “travelling to Maiduguri to visit Nigerian troops, the Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) and persons affected by the Boko Haram sect as not only commendable but exemplary for all intending leaders.”
