CBN donates relief materials to Yobe IDPs

SENIOR and junior workers of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states yesterday donated relief materials to Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) from 12 attacked towns and villages in Yobe State.

  The donated relief materials comprise 115 bags of rice, 15 jerry cans of cooking oil and seven bales of clothes for distribution to over 116,000 IDPs.

  Presenting the materials yesterday in Damaturu, the state capital, the Damaturu Branch Comptroller of CBN, Alhaji Ibrahim Dibola, said the contributions were made by CBN workers from the affected states in North-East sub-region of the country.

  His words: “The indigenes of the three states affected by the previous state of emergency working with the CBN believed that their relatives are in dare need of assistance; hence the need for the contribution of these relief materials for onward distribution by the Yobe State government.”

  He said the workers also believed that government alone could not alleviate all immediate problems of the displaced persons, which was as a result of the destruction of their communities by Boko Haram insurgents.

  He, therefore, called on individuals and corporate organisations to

complement government’s efforts by assisting them.

  Responding, the Yobe State governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary (Special Service, Government House), Alhaji Usman Hassan Lawan, described the efforts of the indigenes of Yobe alongside other two states affected by state of emergency working with the CBN as remarkable and worthy of commendations.

  The relief materials, according to him, will no doubt complement the efforts of Yobe State government towards improving the livelihood of IDPs, urging other bodies to emulate the indigenes of the three states working with CBN.
