THE General Overseer of the Bible Life Church Cathedral, Bishop Leonard Umunna, has called on pastors to pray and hear the voice of God before they enter into politics or risk being rubbished by the prevailing corrupt system and the ambitious co-politicians, who never mind whose ox is gored, so far they get what they want.
The cleric also called on Nigerians in the Southern part of the country not to sleep with their two eyes closed on the issue of Boko Haram insurgency or continue to take the matter with a pinch of salt, warning that if they could penetrate Chad and Cameroun, they could also move to any other part of the country, if there is no adequate preparation to give them strong resistance.
Addressing the media in his Church in Lagos, Umunna, who lamented the state of the nation and called on the government to come up with a new constitution that will address the various problems confronting the nation, which most importantly would go a long way to solving the issue of ethnicity.
Umunna, who cast aspersions on the pedigree and capability of the two prominent presidential candidates, said: “If Buhari of APC wins, there will still be problem and if the incumbent wins again, fire is on the mountain.
“To face the reality, what we are going for in February if we do not back pedal is selection and not election.”
He implored the federal government to face the truth by implementing some of the policies arrived at the national conference, which gulped a lot of money and embark on the agreed terms that would move the nation forward.
He added that beating about the bush, organising elections that would not bring solutions to the teething problems such as unemployment, power and infrastructures would amount to deceiving ourselves.
“To face the fact, we are not yet one as a nation and the issue of tribal sentiment is very glaring, which cannot be unconnected with the nation still crawling after more than 50 years of independence.
“I distance myself from the school of thought or self-consolation that we are moving on gradually, when the level of corruption is increasing and it is very glaring that politicians are not clamouring to get elected to change the situation of the country, but to worsen it by enriching themselves and continuing to impoverish the rest of the citizenry. Imagine the amount of money they spend to register their candidature and consider the amount they also spend in bribing the people, printing posters as if they must get there by force and as if Nigerians will remain fools and continue to be deceived for ever,” he said.
