THE Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday condemned the abduction of the Catholic priest, Reverend Father Emmanuel Akingbade by yet to be identified gunmen in Ido Ekiti and urged the security agencies to ensure his release as soon as possible.

The lawmakers, who noted that kidnapping was alien to the State expressed concerns that unless people are ready to volunteer information to the government and the police, the incident would become a recurring decimal.

The lawmakers in a press release signed by its Speaker, Pastor Kola Oluwawole noted the rising case of kidnapping was aimed at discrediting the government of Mr Ayo Fayose and warned the perpetrators to stop the criminal act.

The legislators expressed regrets that barely two weeks after eleven people were freed from kidnappers den, a Reverend Father was kidnapped at a gunpoint.

Oluwawole said the Assembly would continue to partner with the security agencies in the task of ensuring that the State is safe for the residents and intending investors.

He assured that every available step would be taken by Ayo Fayose-led government to nip the situation in the bud before it becomes a huge burden of distraction to the present administration.

Describing the increasing kidnapping as an embarrassment to the State, the Speaker charged all the citizens to see the responsibility
of making the state a crime-free society as a collective task, which should not be left in the hands of the security agencies to perform.

“The present government has been doing its best to in curtailing the menace, but such should be complemented by members of the public through the release of useful information that could assist the
security operatives in checking the trend of insecurity.

“The kidnapping of Father Akingbade is condemnable. This was alien to Ekiti culture until recently, when some unscrupulous elements bent on making Ekiti ungovernable because of their selfish reasons.

“We pray for the quick release of the man of God. But we restated our readiness to work with the government to unearth the perpetrators within the shortest possible time”, he said.
