They don’t necessarily have to be told in doing what is appropriate and beneficial to the state electorate before they know what is at stake for their various constituencies. The economic circumstance the country is beclouded with should begin to send strong signals to all our elected representatives both at the national and state levels that the era of cost extravagance in governance is increasingly becoming outdated, particularly in the wake of low demand for crude oil.

In other words, it is high time our elected representatives began to display a common selfless attitude towards the issue of governance with a view to bettering the lives of their citizens and also acting as a shock absorber to the dwindling revenues posed by the slide in international oil prices.

The Governor of Kaduna State Mallam Nasir El’ Rufai has acted very reponsively and expeditiously as well to the current challenges before the state and it will be wise if other elected officers can take this bold step in order to ameliorate the untold hardship faced by the state citizenry.

Personally, I think as time goes on every elective position in this country hitherto seen as a medium of amassing wealth by our political establishment will soon become less lucrative and boring for those who have nothing to offer. So I hope the dwindling fortunes in crude oil never ceases to exist until there is absolute entrenchment of innovative-leaders in our political sphere of life.
