A showdown is imminent in Amazum Ugbawka autonomous Community in Nkanu-East Local Government Area of Enugu State following the alleged activities of the newly elected President General of Uzam General Assembly, Mr. Boniface Okoli, which yesterday received the knocks of the community.

Disturbed by the development, the traditional ruler of the community, Mr. Anthony Nwobodoeze, in a petition, accused him (Okoli) of violating the constitution and involved in acts inimical to the progress of the community.

Okoli was elected in December, last year by the community, about two years after the settlement of the crisis over traditional rulership of the community.

The Monarch, who alleged that the election of the President General did not receive certification of the Ministry of Rural Development in the state as prescribed by Law, accused him of using the position to foment trouble in the community and called for his removal.

Efforts to reach Okolie yesterday proved abortive. But one of his aides, who spoke on anonymity, said that he (Okoli) had not done anything to warrant such attack, accusing those he defeated in the election of instigating the Monarch against him.

He attributed the problem to the move by the president general to ‘renovate the town hall using a native of the area.’

In a four-page petition dated June 11, titled, “a need for immediate removal of Boniface Okoli to save Amauzam,” made available to newsmen yesterday in Enugu, the monarch regretted that, “ Okoli has failed to constitute his executive to work with him, four months into the life of his administration as stipulated by the community’s constitution.
