UNIDENTIFIED arsonists have set ablaze the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ngor, headquarters of Andoni Council of Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the APC of being responsible for the attack unleashed on the campaign team of its governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, while on campaign tour of the area.

The Guardian gathered from sources at Ngor that unidentified persons threw explosives presumed to be dynamites into the Ward 1, APC office in Ngor in the early hours of yesterday, causing an explosion that damaged the building.

APC Chairman in the council, Amos Gogo, who confirmed this, said the dastardly act of persons who he suspects are members of the opposition, has created fear among the people ahead of next month’s elections.

“The building has been completely razed. We are calling on the state government to come to our aid as we are no longer safe in the community. We don’t know what will happen in the night,” he said.

Similarly, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Andoni Council, Ikwut Emmanuel, said he got a call in the early hours of yesterday informing him of the incident.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad, said the Police is aware of the incident and would investigate the matter.

PDP chairman, Felix Obuah, alleged that there is evidence that the gunmen who purportedly attacked Wike’s team were specifically directed to disrupt the PDP campaign rally, stressing that prior to the attack, the APC supporters had exhibited acts of rascality and violence against its supporters across communities in Abua/Odual Council.
