FG Ready To Resolve Anambra, Kogi Oil- Well Crisis, Says Sambo
HOPE for early resolution of the logjam between Anambra and Kogi states over the discovery of oil well in a boundary community was rekindled by the Vice President Namadi Sambo.
The Vice President, who spoke at the Presidential Campaign flag off in Lokoja, during the week said the controversy will soon be over.
“Issues of exploration of oil and gas in some local government areas in Kogi state has reached advanced stage,” he stated.
Anambra and Kogi States have been in a tussle for the oil title, which led to loss of lives two years ago between the neighbouring communities of the two states.
After President Jonathan allegedly named Anambra State an oil producing state all had not been well in the boundary communities, especially as the Odeke people felt short-changed.
It would also be recalled that the warring parties were referred to the National Boundary Commission (NBC) headed by the Vice President. Sources said that the NBC had met many times with governors and representatives of the states and affected communities with a view to resolving the crisis.
The government of Kogi State, on its part, had insisted that since the oil well in question is on its soil in Odeke in Ibaji local council area, then Kogi and not Anambra, should be crowned an oil producing state. It is believed that Sambo’s declaration signified a major development in the resolution of the crisis.
Similarly, a 1000 megawatts coal power project under a public private partnership arrangement has began in the state.
Other Federal Government projects in the state include completion of the dredging of River Niger, on going construction of the Lokoja Port, resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel Complex and Geregu Power projects.
