Buhari-11-1-2015MAKURDI, the Benue State capital Friday was agog to receive the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and other top notches of the party who stormed the city in continuation of their campaign across the country.

The IBB Square, venue of the event, which was under tight security, was filled to capacity with party supporters.

Addressing the mammoth party faithful, Buhari said insecurity, lack of employment and corruption, which have been in vicious circle in the country, would be the target of APC administration, saying he would deal with it decisively if voted into power.

Buhari also lamented the high rate of corruption in the country, saying that it has denied the people their basic necessities of life.

“Insecurity, lack of jobs and corruption are vicious circle we will tackle. Go and see the trillions of dollars that have been spent on security in this country in the last four years.

“Because of corruption the morale of the police, soldiers and other armed forces is very low; that is why the military will call for a press conference to tell the people that they cannot fight Boko Haram.”

He said that if elected, he would boost the morale of the security forces by providing them their needs as opposed to what obtains today.

The APC flag bearer noted that 60 percent of the youths in the country were unemployed; a development that accounts for many odds confronting the nation.

In respect of Benue State, Buhari said: “Benue State, for instance, is endowed with agricultural resources. I wonder why private entrepreneurs are not encouraged to establish cottage industries. Benue oranges are produced in large quantities in the state and there are no industries to process them into finished goods,” he noted.

He promised to invest heavily in agriculture in Nigeria and improve economy of the country, encourage financial houses to give soft loans for agricultural input and fertiliser.

In his remark, the erstwhile national chairman of PDP, now the Senatorial candidate of APD for Benue North Senatorial District, Sen. Barnabas Gemade told the thunderous party faithful that they should view what is happening as change that is already taking place in Nigeria.

Gemade urged the people of the state to go out and cast their votes for APC and ensure that it counts because they give the country the development it needs.

Also speaking, Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue North West, George Akume told the party supporters that Buhari would bring about the change that would liberate the nation from its various challenges.

The national chairman of APC, John Oyegun said the wind of change has taken over the country, and urged the electorate to vote massively for the party at the general election.
