INEC achieves 82% permanent voters cards distribution in Kano

* Police recover 340 stolen election materials, arrest 23 political thugs

Ahead of the March 8 deadline, the distribution of permanent voters cards PVC in Kano has reached 82 per cent, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said.

   Kano has the largest number of voters across the country with over 4.9 million eligible registered.

Besides, the Kano INEC has taken delivery of additional 800 thousand PVCs and over 10 thousand biometric card readers from its headquarters.

The commission however, revealed that the new PVCs are essentially meant for about 795 polling units whose data were corrupted.

   Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano Alhaji Mukaila Abdullahi who hinted this while speaking with journalists said INEC is prepared to conduct credible elections in the state.

   Although INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner revealed that Kano is still awaiting about 300 thousand more PVC, he noted that the commission is working tireless on distribution channels with additional adhoc staff to facilitate the collection.

  Meanwhile, Kano State Police Command has revealed that five persons have also been detained in connection with 340 INEC permanent voter cards PVCs found in their possession.

  It also said the Command has arrested 23 suspected political thugs and one Hajia Aisha Maijama, a purported sponsor while planning to launched mayhem on their political opponents in the state.

  According to the Command, the political thugs were apprehended at Tudun Wada Local Government Area, a suburb of Kano with dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

  

Besides, the Police revealed that five persons have also been detained in connection with 340 INEC Permanent voter cards PVC, found in their possession.

  Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Idris told Journalists at a press briefing yesterday that the Police intelligence unit has since launched surveillance on the activities of the political parties and several cases of franker which led to the killing of a key politician recently.
