PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, Saturday, said Nigeria will overcome its challenges. The president attended the monthly Holy Ghost service organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the weekend, a programme that also had Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC) and senior pastor of the church, in attendance.

Jonathan, who said he was not at the Camp to campaign for his political ambition, shook hands with senior pastors of the church, including Osinbajo, thanked the people of God for their prayers for the nation. He specifically commended the church and its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, for  “good works and constant prayers,” which, according to the President, have sustain the nation.

“I’m not here to campaign, because you know very well that Daddy GO will not use his altar for political campaigns. We thank you for prayers. Looking at the phases of challenges every society is passing through, my government is working harder and my conviction is that we will soon smile as a nation.”

President Jonathan called on all Christians to pray for peace in our land, for all the various elections. The Almighty knows the best for the nation; (so), continue to pray for us.”

In particular, the President believed that prayers would avert any form of killing and assassination during the forthcoming elections, especially that of the Presidency, which he said had witnessed killings in the past.

Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of the church, later prayed for peace in the nation, using President Goodluck Jonathan as point of contact.

In his message themed, ‘Peace be still,” Adeoye called on Christians to call on Jesus Christ whenever the storm, which does not give notice, arises. His words: Whenever a storm arises call on Jesus Christ. The disciples wasted a lot of time using their own experience, (but) the problem was solved when they called on Jesus Christ, who stills the storm. One word from Jesus Christ, and there will be peace — he doesn’t need to repeat himself.”

In the same vein, Senior Pastor of the Abuja-based Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche, told The Guardian in an interview that Nigerians do not need to worry over the 2015 elections, as God would not put the wrong people on the throne.
