Eko Movement raises alarm on fake medical report to discredit Ambode

THE Lagos State Chapter of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed displeasure over the persistent vilifications on President Goodluck Jonathan by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Also, in another separate reaction to Obasanjo’s stand against Jonathan, a group, the PDP Resurgent Group, says it reads with shock the most highly undeserving press briefing by him where he likened the incumbent President Jonathan to a former Ivoirian Leader, Mr. Laurent Gbagbo.

The group said it was astonished that Obasanjo could go thus far in displaying his hatred for Jonathan.

In a statement yesterday, the State Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, said it is imperative of the former president to stop his campaign of calumny against the President, saying that the incumbent president has performed better than any of his predecessors in office with his giant stride achievements in the last four years.

Meanwhile, the Eko Liberation Movement has raised an alarm over an attempt by a faceless group to procure a fake medical report to discredit the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, in the forthcoming governorship election.

In a statement by Mr. Gbolahan Agboola, the convener of the Movement, he said that Ambode is sound in mind, body and spirit; there is no amount of shenanigan by the desperate opposition to discredit him that will change our resolve to support him in his bid to keep Lagos on the track of greatness and prosperity.

He said: “It has come to our notice that a faceless group is trying to procure a fake medical report like they did to the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, that he had prostrate cancer.

“These agents of destabilisation seem to be ready to do anything in order to stop the forward march of Lagos. Their latest antic is to claim that Ambode had suffered a strange mental illness. It seems that there is no morality in this war to “capture” Lagos this time around.

“We cannot be hoodwinked or deceived by any false claim from any group or individual. Ambode is our man for the job of moving Lagos to the next level.”

The party said: “The persistent antagonism of President Jonathan by former President Obasanjo is unfair, destructive and unbecoming of a supposed elder statesman.

“This attack is totally unwarranted. Not only that the President is above board, indeed considering the level of development viz the short-term and in spite of the distraction caused by insurgency in the land, President Jonathan can be rated as the best President Nigeria ever had.

“These developments in the various areas of industrialisation, roads and railways, infrastructure, agriculture, rule of law and credible elections, among others, have indeed been acknowledged by even the international community.”

The Co-ordinator and Secretary of the PDP Resurgent Group, Mr. Olufemi Lawson and Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi, said it is surprising considering the import, motive and timing of such statement coming just few days after same Obasanjo publicly vowed not to make any comment on the state of the nation until the elections are concluded.

“We consider Obasanjo’s outburst as a public attack on the person of the President. No civilised nation has had this sort of Obasanjo’s public attack being disguised as criticism of the incumbent by a predecessor. The spirit behind the latest outburst of Gen. Obasanjo is evil, self-serving and hypocritical. It is in looking beyond the veil that we saw that Obasanjo like he always do, is trying to play God”, the group said.
