Lagos PVC Collection Centres Witness Large Turnout
LAGOS residents turned out in hundreds Friday at different Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection centres to collect their cards, in readiness for next week’s presidential election.
The Lagos State Government had declared Friday as public holiday to enable those who were yet to collect their PVCs to collect it.
In response, some Lagos residents started to troop into designated collection centres in different parts of the state as early as 7:30 am.
When The Guardian visited some centres at Oshodi and Mushin area of the commercial city in the morning, it was observed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were busy attending to those who came to collect the cards.
Some of the prospective voters, who spoke with The Guardian, commended INEC for stepping up efforts in the PVC distribution, and urged the commission to disregard calls from some quarters to extend the general election. They described those yearning for extension as selfish people, are only interested in disruption of the election. “ The number of PVCs already distributed around the country is capable to determine who will win the poll,” a man, who spoke anonymously, told The Guardian.
A resident of Oshodi, Mr.David Nduka, however complained that the commission did not have enough hands to attend to those who came to collect the PVCs.‘’INEC officers in Oshodi are trying. But it does not have enough hands to handle the PVC distribution,” he said.
