FEW weeks to the February 14 Presidential Election, the chances of emerging victorious for All Progressive Congress (APC) candidates, General Mohammed Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, may have received boost in Lagos, as a youth campaign volunteer group, Buhari/Osinbajo Youths Squad (BOYS) has been launched.

The BOYS is a conglomeration of different youth advocacy groups (comprising men and women from Universities, and working class across the state), united in their passion to voluntarily reach out to the electorates, urging them to vote Buhari/Osinbajo into the Presidency, based on the ex-general and academia’s “comprehensive economic plans” and “personal integrities.”

They said that their simple strategy was to explore all intellectual means available to sell the programmes of their preferred candidates to the people, “as against the non-existent political manifestoes of the People’s Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.”

At a press conference to herald the launch of the group during the week, a leader of the group said their fundamental objective was “to spread the message of hope, safety and prosperity” that is “synonymous with the Presidency of Buhari/Osinbajo” if voted into power.

The group added that it was also a priority to them “the need to tell the electorate that we are going to win the election for Buhari/Osinbajo through balloting not bulleting.”

The speakers were Abiola Ojo, a legal practitioner and Convener, Green Path Nigeria; Comrade Balogun Adeniyi, Coordinator, Youth Advocacy for Change; Orekoya Abiola, Senate President, Students Parliament, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos; Daramola Oladimeji, the coordinator of Support Group for Osinbajo and the Mobilisation Officer for BOYS; and Adediran Muideen Babatunde, the event’s media coordinator.

In his remarks, Ojo, who is also the Convener of BOYS, said “we are here today because of the beauty of democracy, which gives room for competition and opposition. Having experienced six years of Jonathan’s Presidency, we are more than disappointed at the outcome and proportionate positive impact on the people. Hence, we are routing for the Presidency of Buhari/Osinbajo. We are doing this because of the credibility and personal integrities of the duo.”
