Plans are underway for the take-off of Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, The Guardian has learnt. This followed the recent declaration by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, regarding the establishment of the academy.

It was gathered that the framework for its operation had been completed. A source in the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions said while the framework highlights the focus, objectives and operational guidelines of the academy, it also spells out the eligibility criteria for aspiring fellows.

A document made available to The Guardian stated that the academy would serve as a platform to develop future leaders by equipping them with the requisite skills to positively influence the public service and instilling in them the ethics and values of purposeful leadership through direct mentoring and on-the-job training.

It further showed that the fellowship would give the youths an opportunity to support Nigeria’s recovery efforts through inclusive and sustainable development solutions and policy-making while fellows of the academy would act as special assistants to Lagos State in their assigned ministries or agencies.

While information concerning the governing board for the academy and the steering committee are still sketchy, it was gathered that efforts were being made to commence the engagement of aspiring fellows for the academy, which is anticipated to begin next year February.
