ONDO State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has formally inaugurated the campaign committee saddled with the task of ensuring that President Goodluck Jonathan got the promised one million votes in the state as the nation moves towards the February 14 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The inauguration, which was done during the weekend, was preparatory to the scheduled commencement of full statewide campaigns for the presidential and other elections, which was planned for today (Monday) to sensitise the electorate to vote for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But a section of the state leadership of the party has rejected the composition of the committee even as the process of inauguration was going on at the controversial state office of the party at Alagbaka quarters of Akure metropolis last Saturday.

The candidate of the party in the last governorship election, Chief Olusola Oke, who addressed newsmen as the event was going on said himself and other leaders of the party were completely side-lined in the process of selection and inauguration of the campaign committee.

According to Oke, who with billionaire businessman and politician, Jimoh Ibrahim were directed by the president during his presidential campaign rally in Akure penultimate week, to work with the governor to ensure the party’s victory, “today’s committee inauguration is a one-man show that is not going to do our party any good in the impending election.”

Oke who addressed reporters at his Ijapo Quarters, Akure home at the time the inauguration was going on about a kilometre away, said “the governor, despite all appeals and entreaties that he should do otherwise, continues to behave like a sole administrator and an emperor who sees all of us in the party as conquered people.

“I have the mandate of a large section of our party and I speak on their behalf to reject the campaign council as inaugurated especially the Director-General. He is unacceptable and I am not speaking alone but on behalf of the entire good members of our great party who are desirous to see us win the coming election overwhelmingly for Mr. President.
