The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday dragged a trader to a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly obstructing NAFDAC officials from carrying out inspection activities at the Mile 12 Market in Lagos.

The accused Biodun Ilesanmi, of Shop No. 28/29 at Mile 12 Market, is standing trial on a charge, bordering on obstruction of duties of agents of government.

The Prosecutor, Mr Umar Shamaki, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on Sept. 3.

He alleged that Ilesanmi prevented members of the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods from ascertaining the genuineness of food products sold at the market.

Shamaki said the alleged offence contravened Section 11 (2) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Cap C34, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

He said that the offence also violated Section 25 of NAFDAC Act, Cap N1, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa adjourned hearing on the bail application of the accused till Sept. 16.
