Ohakim declares support for Ihedioha’s governorship bid in Imo

THE Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha’s bid to become the next governor of Imo State got a huge boost when yesterday, one of the governorship aspirants in the December 8, 2014 party  primaries and  immediate past governor of the state,  Chief Ikedi Ohakim made  what he called ‘historical statement’, canvassing support for Ihedioha the  PDP’s governorship standard bearer.

   He urged his supporters and the electorate in the state to cast their votes for  Ihedioha to, according to him,  redeem all the losses that the people of the state have suffered in the last three and half years.

 Ohakim had scored 213 votes and Ihedioha 246 votes in the primaries held at the Grasshoppers International Handball Stadium, Owerri.

Addressing journalists  and his supporters at his country home in  Okohia, Isiala Mbano at  the event attended by a representative of President Good luck Jonathan, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Ohakim, accused the state governor, Chief Rochas Ohakim, of plunging the state into huge debt of over  N200 billion, regretting that all the iconic  projects which he initiated during his administration were abandoned while over 100,000 metric tonnes of refuse are littered in various parts of the state .

 He said after `wide consultations with supporters, we have decided to give our support and backing to the Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha”. 

 Ohakim also urged Imo electorate to cast their votes for President Good luck Jonathan to complete a second term in the February polls.

The  former governor said he was at a loss as to what Okorocha used N13.2 billion he left in Imo treasury for.

Also speaking , Onwuliri lamented that Okorocha allegedly brain washing Imo people  into believing that many Federal Government projects executed and ongoing were in the state were being carried out by his administration.

 She urged them to take the truth and reject falsehood, pointing out that over N40 million each Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), three storey twin building in beach of the 305 wards in the state which were credited to the state government, the N5billion silos project in Okigwe among others.

 But, the  Senior Special Assistant to Okorocha on Media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, had denied the allegation stating that  his boss neither borrowed such huge sum of money  nor plunged the state into debt.
