PDP Can’t Win Delta Guber Elections, Ogboru Declares

LABOUR Party’s governorship candidate in the much anticipated Delta state guber election, Chief Great Ogboru, yesteday at Abraka, said it would be impossible for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the guber election with the present political complexion of the state. He projected that his party would capture 18 out of the 25 local councils in the election.

Ogboru who spoke with reporters before setting out for campaign in Delta North said the guber election in the state is now a two horse race between the PDP and the Labour Party after he was officially endorsed by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) last Sunday.

He said it would be difficult for the PDP to win because according to him “the political dynamics, complexities and actors have changed” in the state and that the Delta South areas, which were prone to rigging would no longer be business as usual as the actors have changed. He said he believes strongly the votes of the people of Delta state would count this time around.

Ogboru explained that the endorsement by the UPU means he already has 10 local council votes in the kitty. He said: “as you are all aware, a few days ago the UPU endorsed my humble self as their candidate. it is a major factor in this campaign. When you are endorsed it translates into votes and you know that 85 per cent of Urhobos in 10 councils are behind you. It means elections in 10 local councils have been settled.
