• Dankwambo free to back party of choice, says APC

CONTRARY to ongoing speculations that Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has being engaging in anti-party activities, leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the allegation as false, stating that the governor is a “loyal member of the party.”

However, reacting to the allegation, the state Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ishaya Karu said Governor Dankwambo has the right to support and even vote for Gen. Buhari because Gombe people, according to him have always liked Buhari.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Shuaibu Sabulu, while denying the claim, said the governor and the entire PDP family in the state are solidly behind the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The party chief accused the National Coordinator of Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation of dealing with some coordinators in the state that were appointed at the national level without consulting with the leadership of the party at the state level.

Not comfortable with the rumour of the governor involving in anti-party activities, he said, “Dankwambo is PDP and he is a strong supporter of President Jonathan. That is why he is his (Jonathan) campaign coordinator for the north-east.”

Had the campaign coordinator of President Jonathan has the Gombe state chapter of the PDP at heart, “ all the campaign materials” as observed by him ought to have come “ through the state leadership of the party and we will then distribute them to the appropriate quarters.”

Karu said, “I cannot dispute that because Dankwambo is a northerner and Buhari is also a northerner so that is their basis for their relationship. Just like any other Nigerian, the governor has the right to chose who he will support,” adding that, “Gombe people have a special likeness for Buhari and the present governor of the state cannot be left behind.”
