PDP leaders will not miss Obasanjo, says Anenih

THE Chairman, Board of Trustees, (BoT) of  of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, Monday played down the effect of the dumping of the party by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on the fortune of the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Emerging from a prolonged meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in his office at the State House along with other top national leaders of the party in his office at the State House Abuja, Anenih, in a brief interaction with correspondents, noted that the party leadership  would not miss him.

Among the top leaders of the party that attended the meeting included Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, Senate President, David Mark; his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; National Chairman of PDP, Ahmadu Bello Mu’azu, his deputy, Uche Secondus; Deputy Directors-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, Prof. Tunde Adeniran and Kabiru Tanimu Turaki ( SAN) among others.

Obasanjo, who was president for eight years on the platform of the party, had been at loggerheads with President over differences on policies. The height of his rejection of the PDP was the alleged tearing of his PDP membership card during a press conference he convened to renounce his membership of the party yesterday.

Anenih believed that Obasanjo had the right to quit or join any political party of his choice, hence nothing could be done about it. His words, “He has the right to leave any party and he has the right to join any party. He is a Nigerian. 

Asked if the PDP will miss him, he said, “Why should we miss him.? To us leaders of the party, his departure is not a loss.”
