A MEMBER of Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abba Gana, has debunked insinuations that the PDP-led government lacks enthusiasm in the fight against corruption.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory explained that it is not really easy to fight corruption within the rule of law as relevant laws determine the speed or momentum of conviction and the institutions involved.

Speaking during a book launch on “Why President Jonathan should be re-elected in 2015” in Abuja, he said “the PDP governments are not really lukewarm in fighting corruption, the fact is that it is not really easy fighting corruption within the rule of law”.

“Unless there is a national legal consensus on how best and how quickly to decide corruption cases, the PDP as a political party and the Federal and State government it controls cannot for now be blamed for the slow pace of prosecuting corruption cases, of course improvement is possible and is being made.”

Accusing the opposition parties of being guilty of the same offence, Abba Gana said “now can anybody help by naming who and where are the elected and appointed officials in the main opposition party who have achieved or done something very spectacular which President Jonathan, our PDP Governors, Ministers and other elected or appointed officials have not achieved or done? None at all”.

He further alleged that the All Progressive Congress (APC) the main opposition party was not really a proper political party like the PDP, which was design at its formation an all-inclusive National party formed to provide much needed National Unity social integration and political stability.

He said, “APC is like a consortium or syndicate formed purely and merely to grab political power at the federal level. That is what bankers and investors do, if a bank cannot finance a project or business alone it forms a consortium or syndicate with other interested banks or investors to finance the project or business”.
