PDP mobilises for PVCs collection in South-South

• Uduaghan alerts on unclaimed 700,0000 voters’ cards in Delta

THE People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has begun massive mobilisation of its supporters for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in the South-South geo-political zone.

  The decision to embark on the mobilisation was taken at an emergency meeting of leaders of the PDP in the region at the weekend in Abuja.

  The meeting, which was held at the residence of the Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih and presided over by him, also directed all party leaders to accelerate efforts at reconciling aggrieved members before the February 14, 2015 presidential election.

  The communique issued at the end of that meeting reads in part:

  “The importance of the zone to the overall success of the President is based on the fact that he is a true and proud son of the zone, and therefore needs the support of the zone to complete his laudable programmes to move Nigeria as a country to the next level.

  “To this end, members should go to their respective states and make sure that voter’s cards are collected before the election. The sensitisation of voters on the need to collect their voter’s cards and the knowledge of the voting process is paramount in the winning of this election.

  But worried by the lackluster attitude of Deltans as regards the collection of the PVCs by prospective voters, Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has called on the people to collect their cards.

  Uduaghan, who spoke at a PDP campaign rally at Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Council of the state at the weekend, said it was worrisome that almost seven hundred thousand (700, 000) people have refused to collect their cards less than one month to the general elections.

  He said the large turnout of Deltans at PDP-organised rallies was good, but noted that such support could only be transformed to victory for the party if the people have their PVCs.

  While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for decentralising the collection points of the PVCs, the governor said that about 1.2 million PVCs had been distributed in Delta State.

  He lamented: “About seven hundred thousand permanent voters cards have not been collected in Delta State, please, it is good for us to attend rallies to show our strength, and it is also very important for us to vote and the only way we can vote for our party’s candidates is by having our PVCs.”
