THE governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Senator Gyang Pwajok, said that he did not intend to assume the mantle of leadership of the state through deceptive tendencies.

Instead, he said he would be there through the collective decision of the Plateau people. He stated this when he featured on the state Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) programme, “The Candidate Speaks.”

At the programme which recorded unprecedented social media participation, Pwajok rolled out his visions for the state if given the opportunity to be governor, adding that he intended to consolidate on the achievements of the present administration. He said he would deal with the problems that the present administration must have encountered.

“Whatever limitations that this administration has passed through, I will be able to deal with those problems so that we can forge ahead. So, my expectation is to meet the expectations of the people of Plateau State,” he stated.

As an integral part of the outgoing administration, he hoped to capitalise on sound understanding of the rudiment of governance to redefine the state in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state and beyond. He emphasised the training and retraining of the youths to make them economically vibrant in the society.

Reacting to questions on the fate of the ongoing projects in the state that may not see the light of day before the present government ends its tenure, Pwajok emphatically stated that he would complete such outstanding projects before embarking on new ones.

Also responding to questions from social media concerning the fate of civil servants, he hopefully spoke on his intention to not only empower the civil service for maximum productivity but to also focus on other areas that will improve the infrastructure of the state.

He added that the outgoing government has created a conducive atmosphere for any reasonable government to operate, stressing that among the 17 items on the agenda of the “Greater Together” Team, (his slogan) it is his plan to industrialise the state through a multi-sectorial approach.

Pwajok maintained that he would be a governor for all and not a section of the state.

Meanwhile, a crisis of confidence, clash of interests, usurpation of committee functions and lack of transparency are the ills already threatening the focus of the Plateau PDP gubernatorial campaign council vested

with the responsibility of planning, directing, and actualising the victory of its candidate in the forthcoming elections.

Ominous reports issuing from the campaign council indicate that frosty relations got worse after the flag-off of the gubernatorial campaigns

in Mangu as most sub-committee chairmen and their members complained of the high-handedness and inaccessibility of the director-general of the campaign council, Daniel Kunmi.

Although the media and publicity sub-committee chairman, Nash Josiah, could not be reached, it was gathered that the media committee has

been sidelined as its vote of about five million naira with which it was to arrange and offset publicity costs of the Mangu event was not

given to it.

Although Pwajok has been enjoying favourable public rating and popular youth followership, the anomalous state of affairs in the campaign council is affecting the electioneering fortunes of the party and its candidate.

It was gathered that the method of operation of the campaigns is at best in want of direction, as meeting to review the success or otherwise of the last week campaign flag-off was not held until when the “sobs and sighs” from members of the various committees became deadening.

Pwajok was said to not have been altogether happy with processes and procedures in the campaign council, especially after the Mangu event last week, just as some sub-committee members have lost enthusiasm, and become disinterested and indifferent.

However, the APC in the state appears to be closing in as it was gathered that a cream of the PDP, especially those aggrieved by the outcome of the last December 8 gubernatorial primaries, including the state deputy governor, Ignatius Longjang, has concluded plans to decamp to the APC.
