The Rivers State Police Command has denied reports of violence at the Rivers State Government House, describing them as “false and fabricated.”
The reassurance came after rumours emerged alleging a violent altercation involving military forces loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike and current Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a press release signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer, the Command urged the public to disregard the rumours and verify information from credible sources.
Iringe-Koko insisted that there were no incidents of armed confrontations or casualties involving Nigerian military personnel within Rivers State.
“We can confirm that there was no such incident, and this narrative is a deliberate fabrication aimed at inciting fear, confusion, and unrest within Rivers State,” she said.
Additionally, she stated that Governor Fubara has not ordered a curfew or called for any takeover of security operations by militant groups, saying: “The Nigeria Police Force and other security and law enforcement agencies remain in full control, actively maintaining peace and security in Rivers State and across the State.”
“The Command views these false reports as a deliberate attempt to incite fear, confusion, and unrest within Rivers State. The public is advised to be cautious and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” she said.
Also, the Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Mustapha, reassured residents that they can go about their daily activities without fear, as police officers and other security agencies are working vigilantly to preserve peace and security at all times.
