The governors of South-South geo-political zone, elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have assured their Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Udom Emmanuel, of their support in his re-election bid.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, who is also Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, gave the assurance at the flag-off of Emmanuel’s campaign for a second term in office in Uyo yesterday.

A statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Dickson on Media Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, quoted him as having said that all the governors would have been present in Uyo for the crucial event but for the fact that some of them were also involved in campaigns in their respective states.

He said that the South-South governors all backed the re-election bid of Emmanuel because of his record of performance as a good product from the PDP.

However, Emmanuel has assured the people of the state of his determination and commitment to complete all his programmes if given another opportunity by the electorate during the forthcoming governorship election.

He gave this assurance yesterday during the flag-off of his campaign for his re-election and presentation of his manifesto held at Uyo Township Stadium in the state capital.

According to him, his achievements in the five-point agenda remained unrivalled.

Meanwhile, the state Co-ordinator of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign groups in Akwa Ibom State and a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Ignatius Edet and about 5,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains have defected to PDP.

Edet, who spoke on behalf of the decampees, said they were happy rejoining the PDP.
