Contrary to declarations by Ebonyi State governor, Chief David Umahi, that he was comfortable remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) there are serious indicators that the governor is showing “active interest” in the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Umahi had shortly after a visit on President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock villa, told journalists that his support for the programmes and policies of the President especially the anti-corruption stance; does not translate to plans to defect to APC.

However, investigations by The Guardian reveal that the governor was only playing with words and bidding his time, as he continues to work for an eventual cross over to the ruling party.

While most residents of Ebonyi were still pondering on the governor’s visits to both the former President Olusegun Obasanjo and incumbent, Buhari; the decision of the governor to send sallah gifts to prominent Emirs in the North, raised insinuations about his covert plans to join APC.

A source in the palace of one of the Emirs, confided in The Guardian that a consignment of sallah gifts consisting of bags of rice and other items was received from an emissary of the Ebonyi governor adding that, “he said the gesture is from the governor for the eid-el-fitri celebrations.”

Also, at a meeting he held with members of the National Assembly from the state in the Government House, Friday evening, Umahi was said to have intimated the legislators on his visit to Buhari and pleaded with them to “always explore ways of aligning with bills, motions or correspondences and programmes of President Buhari.”
